Ethiopia lies on an expansive region in the Eastern hemisphere of Africa. This region of Africa is known as the horn of Africa. Ethiopia is one of the largest countries in Africa. The country lies in Sahara desert. As such Ethiopia is believed to lie south of the Sahara. Ethiopia struggles with its semi desert topography and some rich highlands, which have been unable to provide enough food for the entire population. The country has a population ranging up to millions of humans. They have been facing starvation throughout the decades. Ethiopia has been calling for international help to save the humanitarian crisis caused by its geography.
Geography experts estimate that, Ethiopia measures approximately435071 square miles. This measure about 1,126829km squared. This makes Ethiopia the world's 27th most largest country. Much of Ethiopia lies on the Horn of Africa. Ethiopia borders many countries. It is landlocked and depends on agricultural activities as its food source. Regions in Ethiopia are fertile for agriculture. Ethiopia borders Sudan on its western expanse. It borders Djibouti and Eritrea on the East. Ethiopia has been having military problems with Eritrea for many years and they have fought fierce wars. On the south, Eritrea borders Kenya on the South.
Ethiopia is part of the Great Rift Valley. This very fertile length goes down along the east Africa. The Ethiopian rift valley has forests and rivers, which supply the land with water and enough hydroelectric power sources. The Ethiopian geography is uneven making its climatic conditions to vary. There are plateaus, vast highland complexes and complex mountains, lowlands, steppes and desert making the country to experience erratic weather.
